The multi-slice PET/CT is the latest innovation in PET imaging. The ECAT REVEAL allows a PET scan and a CT scan to be taken in a single pass. These images can then be combined to show metabolic and anatomic information in a single image. This allows for accurate assessment of disease activity in addition to the ability to determine the size and location of disease.
Thompson Cancer Survival Center is one of handful of Cancer Centers that can utilize PET imaging in Radiation Therapy Treatment Planning. PET based planning allows:
- Assessment of tumor aggressiveness
- Identification of benign and malignant growths
- Biological Targeting of the Treatment
- Monitoring the success of therapy
