Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer
Conference and Clinic
"Teaming Together for Quality Total Care"
Ask patients diagnosed with breast cancer what their first feeling was and you hear fear. Fear of the known. Fear of the unknown.
They have a million questions and typically they discuss them with their team of physicians at separate appointments. Sometimes the time lapse between appointments can be days or even weeks. With the delay comes apprehension, anxiety . . . and more fear.
Thompson's Cancer Survival Center offers patients an option of a private, individual consultation with a team of specialists in one single office visit.
An Authentic Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Clinic.

When your case is presented at the Multidisciplinary Breast Conference, the specialty physicians discuss treatment options based on the individuality of your circumstances. The Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Coordinator organizes the clinic that follows allowing the physician to relate one-on-one with the patient and explain treatment choices in lay language.
We take all the time you need to answer questions and this makes a tremendous difference in your understanding of the disease.
The Multidisciplinary Breast Clinic enables specialty physicians trained in breast disease to team up and map out a treatment plan that is individualized. This provides seamless care from initial diagnosis through follow up.
Why Is a Multidisciplinary Approach Ideal for Patients with Breast Disease?
Patients with breast cancer ideally necessitate a multidisciplinary - or team - approach to their healthcare, with expertise from many different specialists. Because of this, they sometimes spend time waiting between physician appointments . . . time that could be spent in treatment.
We Know a Patient's Time Is Valuable
Patients with breast cancer ideally need same-day access to their team of expert healthcare professionals who have specialized knowledge about diseases of the breast.
Breast cancer patients also require synchronized coordination by their healthcare team to provide recommendations for the appropriate individualized treatment plan. Like the nation's leading breast centers, Thompson uses this team approach. We recognize a patient benefits from timely decision making and continuity of care.

How Does It Work?
Patients who are diagnosed with breast disease have their case presented to our team of breast health specialists during our weekly breast conference. After conference, patients are seen in the multidisciplinary clinic held that same afternoon.
The clinic offers the unique opportunity for each patient to consult privately and individually with a surgeon, a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist. The specialists rotate to each patient's room, so that the patient never has to leave their room. Throughout the clinic, the patient is encouraged to ask questions and be actively involved in their assessment. Additionally other resources are available either during the initial visit or at a later date such as genetic counseling and a social worker for financial matters. At the conclusion of the visit, the Multidisciplinary Cancer Care Coordinator acts as a patient advocate to ensure the patient understands the plan of care and continues to act as a resource indefinitely.
