- About Us
Wanda Witt, tumor conference and patient housing coordinator at our Thompson Oncology Group – Downtown location, was honored with the Rob Sanders Award on February 8, 2022. Created in honor of Rob Sanders, this award recognizes non-nurse employees who go above and beyond to improve the experience for our patients, family members, and coworkers.
Wanda was nominated by a volunteer at Thompson for her incredible dedication to our patients and their family members. For more than 20 years, Wanda managed the Fellowship Center, which was a free on-campus housing facility offered to patients and family members who were receiving treatments at Thompson. Whether making home cooked meals or driving them to and from treatments, Wanda did anything she could to make our patients feel at peace while here.
Recently, Wanda transitioned into a new role where she works closely with our nurse navigation team to schedule tumor conferences and arrange temporary housing for our patients. Her nominator wrote, “Wanda embodies the legacy of Rob Sanders. She has shown me and many others what kindness and compassion look like!”
Each Rob Sanders Award winner receives a beautiful hand-carved wooden sculpture, a bouquet of flowers, and a banner that will hang in their department. They also receive a certificate and a hang-tag to wear under their badge. It was a wonderful celebration and a touching way to honor Rob’s legacy.
