Thompson Cancer Survival Center – West

The facility at Thompson Cancer Survival Center – West is an area leader in diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology and medical oncology.

Thompson West was the first facility in Tennessee – and one of the first in the world – with ECAT ACCEL PET technology. This scanner combines positron emission tomography and computed tomography scans in a single pass so the images can be combined to show metabolism and body structures simultaneously. This pinpoints cancer, helps determine the size and precise location of the tumor and gives an indication of how fast the cancer is growing. It can then be used to measure the success of therapy.

A high-powered linear accelerator and advanced 3-D treatment planning make radiation therapy at Thompson West more accurate. Precisely-targeted intensity-modulated radiation therapy targets tumors with exceptional accuracy.

More powerful chemotherapy is offered at Thompson West as part of the area’s only accredited stem-cell transplant program offered in cooperation with Thompson Downtown.
